Immersion FAQs
What's an Immersion? An Immersion is a systematic exploration of the foundations of Anusara yoga. It is an opportunity to "immerse" yourself in teachings and techniques that foster personal growth. Although the full, 108-hour Immersion (3 Parts) is a pre-requisite for Teacher Training, it is recommended for anyone who loves yoga and wants to learn more about it.

What will I get out of it?
You'll leave the Immersion with:
- greater ease and delight in your body
- new insights into your place in the world, your relationships, and your life's journey
- a fuller understanding of yoga's history & philosophy
- 20 new friends

What usually happens at the Immersion (is it all asana)?
Sessions alternate between more up-tempo periods of asana practice and more contemplative periods of group discussion, meditation, and pranayama. We take a half-hour break on Saturday and Sunday afternoons to recharge.

Who can participate?
Anyone who has had at least 30 hours of Anusara yoga classes and wants to learn more about him/herself and Anusara yoga. The SMY Immersion is modular so you may participate in any weekend or any Part with or without previous involvement. Register now.

What People are Saying About the Immersion
"Part 1 of the Anusara Immersion was such an important part of deepening my practice. Truly guided by a master teacher, Christy, along with the nurturing and support of Emma, I experienced unexpected moments of awareness and awakening within my breath, body, and life. To practice with these two teachers, in such an inspiring and dedicated community of people, has been the highlight of my yoga practice to date!" -E.L.

"The Immersion was an exhilarating experience which generated a roller coaster of emotions, thoughts and questions. Through this experience I learned much about myself - and that there is so much more to learn, explore and experience. The energy and spirit of the Kula helped to create an environment that allowed me to let down my guard, relax and open to the possibilities. Christy and Emma are an amazing team to spend time with to take your practice to the next level. They create an open environment which gives you the freedom to look within yourself, to look to others for support and to feel free to just be who you are without fear of judgment." -S.D.

"I've been practicing Anusara yoga for more than six years and teaching for two. I have benefitted in so many ways - physical, mental and spiritual. But my recent work with Christy has shifted both my practice and my teaching. She brought light into areas of my practice that had remained out of my awareness. Working with Christy, I feel as if I am finding new dimensions of yoga and of myself. Her teaching is a unique gift of the heart." -C.V.

"Participating in the Anusara Immersion Part 1 has given me so much information and insight applicable both on and off the mat. Christy's down-to-earth explanations of postures and the mechanics behind them brings about an awareness in your own body that stays everytime you practice. The philosophical discussion topics Christy presented are so thought-provoking that I couldn't help posing the same conversations to friends outside the immersion. However, what has stood out to me the most is the wonderful feeling of support from the kula. It was so refreshing to get to know so many talented and dedicated yogis. I think we all realized we have a lot in common in our desire to deepen our experience of yoga and the challenges we find. Not only did we learn from Christy...we learned from each other. I can't wait to continue on to Part 2!!" -M.A.

"Christy Burnette's current now runs through my every day, I think because she is so keyed into her true spirit, a great one. I hope that all my beloved fellow students get to enjoy her intelligence, support, zest, and joy. Beyond all her knowledge and her amazing teaching skill, Christy Burnette embodies how being our unique selves is the most divine alignment." -L.K.

"I found the Immersion to be a unique experience of exploring the many facets of Anusara yoga within a supportive community of eager learners. Christy has an ability to facilitate the weaving of the principles through discussion, demonstration and individual application. I found a deeper understanding and gradual incorporation of these principles within my practice over the interim months. There were many "ah-ha!" moments, lots of laughter and engaging exchanges. I'm looking forward to the upcoming sessions." -B.F.
